An heirloom artwork that tells a story
Storytelling is an important aspect of my practice and it is something I instill especially in commissions. Beyond capturing a likeness or that it looks like a photograph, who the subjects are and the story of their lives are elements I focus more on capturing for the final image.
-
Anytime I take on a commission, the most important and enriching aspect for me is to listen to the story of the subject.
As such, my preference is always to paint from life, but if it is not possible for logistical reasons and the work needs to be done from still images, we will still need to have a video call.
-
We organise a video call to discuss who the subject is and any ideas you might have for the final painting.
We will discuss the size and orientation, and where the final artwork will be hung.
The logistics of how and where the painting is made will also need to decided, to determine whether it would be done from life or from photos.
-
From life: The subject will sit for 2 hours each session, for a predetermined number of sessions (25mins followed by a 5min break; don’t worry, it isn’t as difficult or daunting as it sounds!)
From photos: You will be guided on how to take photos that I can work from.
-
As a rough guide, two common sizes are:
40 × 60cm - €2500
70 × 90cm - €5000
All paintings will be made with top quality linen on stretcher bars ready to hang.
They will be unframed unless otherwise discussed.
