About

I previously studied and worked in architecture before moving to Florence in 2016 to learn how to paint in the classical realist method.

Graduating after three years of full-time study, I taught at the academy for another two years before returning to Australia where worked at a contemporary art museum.

In 2025, I relocated to Sweden where I currently live and teach at the Swedish Academy of Realist Art.

An underlying focus of my artistic practice is the Japanese concept of Ma—the space between things, the pauses in time, and the emptiness that quietly threads through all aspects of life. Though often overlooked, these intervals are essential. Without silence in music, there is no dramatic tension; without space, there is no possibility for growth, and without pauses in conversation, there is no room for thought. It is this presence within absence that I seek to capture in my work.

Whether working with people or objects, my practice begins with listening. I aim to understand and visually represent each subject's story with the attention and reverence it deserves, regardless of how unassuming it may appear. Working primarily from life, I encounter Ma throughout the painting process: in the natural lulls between conversations with a model, in moments of contemplation and solitude when working alone, and in the quiet stillness that emerges from intense observations of subjects.

As such, a large part of my painting process is listening visually, for quiet shifts of movement that a model makes, or the immense symphony of silence in watching sunlight fall on an object. Ultimately, my paintings arise from an attentiveness to these various moments of silence, revealing the depth and significance that can exist within, often going unnoticed.

It is in silence that we daydream, and in emptiness that we become more aware of our own existence.
