Commissioning an artwork

The process of commissioning an artwork is the same, regardless of the type:

  • Complimentary 1 hour consultation to talk about your ideas and what you are looking for. This can be done in person or over a phone/video call.

  • All commissioned artwork will require a signed agreement which includes the scope of the work and an estimated timeframe for the work to be completed and delivered.

  • For portraits, during the first session, we will work on the composition. This will require a bit of moving around to find a comfortable position and the best lighting for the artwork.

  • As an example, during a 3 hour painting session, we will work for 20~25 mins followed by a 5 min break. After about an hour and a half, we will have a longer break for you to stretch and move around so you don’t feel too tired or sore.

  • If the artwork requires a pose that is difficult to hold or a moment that is difficult to capture, i.e because a toddler is moving around, I will use photography as a visual aid.

I am also available to travel for interstate commissions

Payments will be conducted in two parts: 50% as a deposit once the agreement is signed, and the remaining 50% once the artwork is completed.

Below are some examples of commissioned work. If you have a proposal beyond what I have listed, do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your ideas.

Portrait commission

Portraits typically require around 25~30 hours of sitting depending on the complexity of the pose.

Over the several sessions, we will get a chance to talk while you sit, which will allow me to get to know you as a person and impart that sensibility into your artwork.

I prefer having the client sit in person rather than paint from a photograph since it allows me to pick up on your subtle movements & mannerisms that add to the overall fabric of who you are.

Price for a 40cm x 60cm starts at AUD $2500
